Covid19 pandemic has done damage in every arena of our lives, especially financially. As a result of this sweeping devastation which has negatively impacted our country, accessing your credit report is important. The Annual Credit Report is offering free weekly reports to help consumers monitor their credit for 12 months through April 2021 accessible through their website.

Keep in mind, predators such as thieves are hungry for your money and credit. So be on the alert and take advantage of this offer to safely monitor so you can maintain your credit.

Understanding and reviewing your credit report is a fundamental part of being financially astute and responsible, and lead you to credit empowerment, clarity and peace.

Here are 3 simple steps to look at your report:

1. To access the free weekly reports, go to Annual Credit Report to request your reports. Ensure you access your report from a private secured computer, preferably your home. Once you get to the site, your personal information and identity will be verified, then you’ll get linked to the three bureaus’ websites: TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Once you’ve been verified, a copy of your report will be available for download.

2. Once you download your report, get a colored sharpie marker or pen in hand. Begin to pour over your report and look thoroughly for incorrect information or fraudulent accounts. Look at your name – first, middle and last, and check all suffixes since your dad, grandfather or uncle may have similar names. Also, look out for incorrect spelling, alias, address, work place, social security number, account numbers and erroneous charges or paid off, old or settled information. Make sure to highlight all incorrect information.

3. Now that you have verified your incorrect information, submit an online request for update to each credit bureau – TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Keep in mind that inaccuracy on your credit report could cost you money, time, effort, delayed credit response, higher interest rate, and credit denial.

Remember accessing, reviewing and maintaining a healthy credit profile is important, so don’t delay it. Begin today!
