3 Action Steps to Take in a Financial Crisis

Okay, So COVID19 has taken us all by surprise! So now what? If you have been laid off or downsized from your job. Here are 3 simple actions steps to take to get quick financial footing:

1. PRIORITIZE NEEDS THAT MUST BE MET FIRST

Pay only the basic needs. Housing, food, utilities and transportation, the last only if you have a job or need to use the car to get to key places.

2. MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE PEOPLE YOU OWE

Make a list containing all the details such as the name, info and account numbers, secured and unsecured creditors, credit card companies, mortgage, student loan etc. Call them to inform of your current situation and ask about their hardship assistance.

Most if not all financial institutions have hardship relief packages, so apply based on your situation. However, ensure you get any financial payment deferral in writing – signed and dated.

3. CALL YOUR LOCAL CITY OR TOWN HALL

Inquire about community resources relevant to your needs. All of them have hardship assistance resources for families and small businesses.

Life can be very unpredictable. But being prepared and having a financial plan laid out can help steer you from disaster. With the right preparation, a potential major financial tragedy could be avoided and turned into a minor temporary setback.
